5 Ingredient Grain Free Homemade Dog Treats

I have one very spoilt fur baby.

We always celebrate his birthday and this year, Coopar turned seven!
I always like to make him something extra tasty for his birthday and funnily enough I have a vege loving dog. So instead of a mince cake or bacon biscuits, he had yummy and super nutritious dog biscuits!

Coopar is a very sensitive dog, his skin is easily affected by grass, dust and general environment and diet changes. I make all of Coopar's dog food from scratch and his daily diet consists of lots of veges, chicken, organs, offal and bones. I add kelp, flaxseed, rose hip and lots of other nutrients to jam pack his little body full of all the nutrients he needs. If you want to know more, then feel free to ask. it is something I am very passionate about!

So, back to the birthday celebrations.
Coopar has a grain free diet, so I wanted to make him something healthy and full of his two favourite foods - sweet potato and carrots.
I found the perfect recipe, you can see the original recipe source here.

5 ingredient dog treats
ingredients
  1. 1 1/2 cup coconut flour
  2. 1/2 cup peanut butter, with no added ingredients (I used my homemade peanut butter)
  3. 4 eggs
  4. 1/2 cup coconut oil
  5. 1 cup + 2 tbsp sweet potato puree or pumpkin puree
optional extras
  1. 1/3 cup shredded carrots
  2. 2 tsp dried parsley
method
  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. In a mixing bowl combine all ingredients and form dough into a ball
  3. Roll out dough in between two sheets of baking paper
  4. Gently use your desired cookie cutters to cut and lift cookies into ideal shape. I used hearts and a cute bear shape cookie cutters!
  5. Transfer to a lined baking tray
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until cookies are hard
  7. Let cool completely before serving

The whole time I had this face looking up at me from the kitchen floor. he was ready to snaffle up any crumbs that came his way that's for sure!

They cooked in about 15 minutes in my convection oven and I let them cool and harden up slightly, as they are quite soft.

Coopar the whole time was eyeing me off in the kitchen, it was like he knew they were for him!

Here is how they went down with the birthday boy...

So after all the excitement, I had one very happy looking boy. Very satisfied with his birthday biscuits!

Look at that face...

DO YOU SPOIL YOUR FUR BABY TOO?
Do they get homemade goodies and special birthday treats? Please tell me I am not a crazy dog lady haha, surely others out there do it too?! :)

  1. You are the BEST dog Mummy ever! I will not show this to my fur babies, for fear of them expecting me to make them home made biscuits as well. Our dogs are also grain free, so their treats have always been limited to bones, but I am sure they would be delighted at the thought of yummy treats like this!

  3. You are very kind to your dog indeed! Our puppy gets whatever is leftover from family meals as his treats, as long as it's dog-friendly. He's pretty thrilled with anything that isn't kibble!

  12. Your post is very helpful, thank you. There are many different views on what the best and healthiest dog bones are.  No matter what breed of dog you own, they are going to have the natural instinct to chew. This not only helps to strengthen their teeth, it helps to keep their teeth clean as well. See more http://dogsaholic.com/food_treats/best-dog-bones.html
