This home is my dream home.
The moment I saw this home, I fell in love with it. From the natural light, to the colour palette, the ocean views and the orchard in the garden, this home is simply stunning!
Today I am beyond excited to be featuring this home as today's Feature Friday post. I shared a snippet with you last week on Facebook and the response was great - you all wanted to see more! So today I am doing just that. Here is some background and the story behind this beautiful beach house that sits at Angelsea at the beginning of The Great Ocean Road on Victoria's stunning coastline...
Who lives here:
Interior Designer & blogger, Melissah Weigall, with her Landscape Architect husband, Derek. They both work from home running their own design practices.
The purchase:
Totally out of the blue they purchased this 1950's white weatherboard beach house. After seeing the auction ad in the local paper, they did a quick tour of the home, were smitten and bought it four days later.
It was in desperate need of a major makeover but with some TLC and a lot of hard work it had the potential to be what it is today - a dream home! Melissah and Derek's talents are obvious, the home features high timber ceilings, masses of glass windows to admire the ocean views, an elevated lounge, a fruit orchard in the backyard and an entertaining deck with one of the most amazing uninterrupted ocean views.
The
house was gutted and stripped back to the bare basics. There was a new deck,
kitchen, bathroom, laundry, light fittings and blinds. The floorboards were
sanded and polished, new plasterboard and a few coats of paint gave the house a
new lease of life. The couple designed and project managed the renovation
themselves. Derek managed the trades and Melissah looked after the finishes,
fittings, furniture and decoration. The result has far exceeded their expectations with an
uplifting bright light filled house that screams beach and summer.
The look:
Melissah
has created a casual, relaxed, beachy vibe with an eclectic feel. Hamptons
meets Chinatown! Bleached Asian antiques have been combined with French
Provincial furniture, modern sofas, white washed cane and vintage surfboards.
The colour palette is mainly white with sandy overtones and splashes of aqua to
give it a pop of colour. Old is mixed with new, modern designer with rustic and
vintage with seaside chic. Original artwork featured throughout the home takes
on an organic feel.
The dream:
Owning a
white weatherboard home with 180 degree views overlooking Main Beach, Anglesea
and a 7 minute walk to the beach was beyond this couple’s wildest dreams. They
were after an all year round summer home where thongs, surfboards, sandy feet, surfing,
barbeques and beach towels were the order of the day. A place where they could
live, work, eat, relax and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean.
Their dream certainly came true...

What a great home - some excellent design ideas too. I have to agree with the dream of living by the sea, and being a three minute walk from the front door to the sand for us is something we as a family love.

Some great ideas here although we're a bit more bush/country than beach :-) Thanks for the beautiful photos - and blog. Ex
