Once a modern and minimally decorated home, this masterpiece nestled into the Gold Coast Broadwater has been transformed into a warm and inviting family home filled with treasured decor, style and ambience.
This Hampton's styled home has been designed, renovated and styled by a husband and wife duo who have renovated several properties together before.
I am so thrilled to be sharing with you the home of Hayley Little from Mum Little Loves and all of the amazing before and after photos with you today.
Looking at the home, the first thing you notice is the dramatically different exterior - this is where the transformation starts. It is the biggest change structurally to the home, a new roof that has been changed from curved to pitched.
The existing floorplan was tweaked to add a few more rooms including a media room and another bedroom. From there, the house was refreshed, with new paint, carpet, white cedar window shutters, renovated bathrooms and kitchens and enclosing the balcony with glass louvres. The layout of the kitchen was kept the same, with the addition of more benchspace, a tiled splashback, pendant lights and new handles on the cabinetry.
Are you falling in love with Hayley's style too?
I love the white and blue throughout the living space and the cluster of wall art. Hayley loves the personality that a cluster of objects brings, rather than having a blank wall. I tend to agree!
I thought it would be nice to hear from the lovely Hayley herself and to learn about this amazing transformation and the place she calls home that Hayley was so kind to share with us today!
Hayley,
it’s so lovely to have you here with us – tell us a bit about yourself, as well
as your blog and life!
I'm a
Mum to 3 beautiful children, 2 girls aged 12 and 14 and a little boy aged 3. I
am a wife to a builder who shares my love of renovating houses. I've
always been a keen interior decorating enthusiast, lover of shopping and
supporter of small businesses. Late last year out of complete selfishness
I started a hashtag on Instagram to help myself and others find unique Christmas
gifts from small businesses. It was quite popular, but after Christmas passed I
stopped it. I wasn't quite prepared for the influx of request from my followers
and small businesses to keep it going, and so I started #mumlittleloves on
Instagram. I wanted to share more about these little businesses and that's when
I started my blog. My blog is only young but it's evolving to be a collection
of my favourite small businesses, shopping finds, decorating tips I've picked
up and what's going on in my own home.
I have
been following your blog and social media and love seeing your home and
gorgeous style. What do you love most about your home?
I love all the little details we added to give it some character. Like the VJ board we added to all the ceilings downstairs, and the painted cedar shutters throughout.

What does the word home mean to you?
Home is where my family is. I know that is so clichéd,
but really, even if I was living in the most spectacular mansion in the world,
it wouldn't be 'home' without my family. The 'pitter thump' as we call it, of
little feet running around, the constant smell of beauty products from my teen
daughters, the work boots and socks left at the front door by hubby, these are
the things that make my house a home. I wouldn't have it any other way.
How long did the renovation take on your home?
We moved into our home in October 2011, but we
didn't get started straight away. We did little weekend jobs where we could
until we had all the plans and everything ready to go. We only finished
completely about Christmas 2013. Probably about a year all together.
Do you have any tips for those wanting to tackling
a renovation?
I really recommend living in your home before
starting a renovation, a lot of people buy a new home and renovate it before
moving in. I prefer to move in and watch the way we use the house, the way we
move around, the spots we socialise. Really find out where we need more
storage, or if any colours or surfaces are hard to live with. I feel you will
get a renovation that works better for your family if you take the time to
understand the space. Also, never underestimate the weather, it can really blow
out your time and budgets!
Describe your style?
I struggle with this, I don't think I stick to one
style. I really appreciate lots of styles from Bohemian to Hollywood Regency to
Hamptons and more. I guess I would say casual, coastal and always changing. I
just buy what I like and make it work.
Your inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere, magazines,
Pinterest, Instagram, shop displays, there are so many places to draw
inspiration. The colour palette for this home originally came from the water,
we are a boating family, we are all happy when we are out on the water, so it
felt right to keep those calming colours running through our home. But I am
easily swayed to change an entire room just by a beautiful cushion or piece of
art.
Favourite Room?
My front entry, I adore my panelled staircase and
had to fight with to get it. And I love my wallpaper and bone inlay chest, the
clash of patterns is just so fun.
Biggest indulgence?
The biggest indulgence would be the custom joinery,
especially in the family room where I had an electric fireplace, TV and
shelving built in. It is exy but so worth it. The only downside is you can’t
take it with you when you leave.
What do friends say when they visit your home?
Most people comment on the high ceilings (they are
3m high), and then they see the views and 9 out of 10 people walk straight past
me to the glass doors and stare at the water. I don't blame them, it's a
beautiful spot.
Favourite places to shop for home decor and
furniture?
OH GOSH! There are so many! I am a huge fan of Frankie Jean's cushions
and Loha Home's art. I haven't needed to buy much furniture lately, but as we
are about to undertake a new project I can't wait to find some great furniture
pieces, I have been drooling over the range at Xavier furniture. I also love
finding hidden gems on Gumtree and eBay.
So what's next?
While Hayley loves her home, she has just taken on a new project of a renovation of what can only be described as 'apricot central' (see picture below). You can read all about the exciting more and Hayley's plans here and here.
I cannot wait to see Hayley's new project as she shares a home that she has big plans for - on he blog she will be sharing her design ideas, the wallpapers and fabrics as well as shopping for furniture. I know I cannot wait to see it unfold!
BEAUTIFUL, STYLISH, COASTAL.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE HAYLEY'S HOME?
What do you love most? For me its the gorgeous dining table and master suite. The bedroom is beyond gorgeous!
I'd love to know what you think, feel free to leave a comment below.
