Spontaneous: As a result of sudden impulse or without premeditation.
I had what you would call a spontaneous weekend. I woke on Saturday morning and walked Currumbin beach with Hubby and our fur baby and casually mentioned we should be a little spontaneous this weekend - just pack the car up and go exploring.
That is just what we did.
We threw an overnight bag together, loaded the car, dropped the fur baby at the inlaws for the night (thank you!) and headed north. First stop was Eumundi markets, a local creative and artisan market just out of Noosa in the hinterland. The smell of food is overwhelmingly good and I will be honest, I go there just to eat. There is no secret that I love market food and trying a variety of different things - that day it was spring rolls, dumplings, rice paper rolls and fresh cane sugar and lemon drinks. Perfection.
Next stop was Noosa's gorgeous Hastings Street. Tree lined, some great shops and cute cafes overflowing onto the footpath makes for a great atmosphere. I would say its very like Byron if you have been there before. We headed straight to the surfclub, which has a fabulous view over Noosa's point where you can enjoy a cold drink and watch the mals catching gentle waves on the point.
As late afternoon was approaching we had a quick stop at the bottle shop and fresh seafood market and picked up some supplies before heading to Noosa's river front. The river front overlooks the glasshouse markets and across the river to Noosa northshore, which is essentially the gateway to beautiful Fraser Island by 4WD. We watched the car headlights on the beach across from us and thought of our trip to Fraser Island last year - check it out here, it was honestly one of the best holidays I have ever had. Amazing fun!
A few prawns were devoured and a few cheeky drinks were had and we caught a beautiful sunset, the perfect way to end a Noosa day.
If you are staying in Noosa there are a great variety of restaurant options for dinner, we chose an American themed steakhouse which was fun and a place we hadn't eaten before. It was a little chilly, so the warm heaters were the draw card for us. It was lovely and toasty and upstairs overlooking Hastings Street which was fun.
We retired back to our hotel as we wanted to get up early to see the Farmers Markets as we had heard they were fantastic. They definitely didn't disappoint. They were honestly the best Farmers Markets I have been to - there were so many local growers and artisans from the Noosa and hinterland region and so much variety. The fruit displays were beautiful, the quality was amazing and everything was just s fresh. We stopped for some breakfast (hamoumi, bacon, pesto and tomato baguette - yum!) and then headed off to the lookout, some shopping in Hastings Street and then the scenic route home via the coast.
We had a quick stop in Mooloolaba on the way home for a bite to eat and were home in time for me to put the roast dinner in the oven and snuggle up for a quiet Sunday night in. A whirlwind 24 hour getaway, but it was so nice to see a change of scenery and get away.
Thinking of a trip to Noosa? Want to know the top 5 things to do?
Here is my top five things to do if visiting Noosa for the day or a longer stay.
1. Visit the National Park.
Put on your walking shoes and wander through the coastal rainforest, you will see koalas, dolphins and whales. It's truly spectacular and one of my favourite things to do!
2. Eumundi Markets
The markets have always focused on locally made produce 'Make it, Bake it, Grow it or Sew it'. There is so much talent and amazing art forms to be seen and appreciated.
3. Shopping in Hastings Street
The shopping caters for all ages and its a great way to spend a lazy hour or two browsing with a fresh juice or coffee in hand.
4. Sunset by the river
One of the most beautiful sunsets to be seen - and it costs nothing! Grab a picnic blanket and enjoy the views over the hinterland and Glasshouse mountains.
5. Farmers Markets
Loads of fresh produce, yummy breads, artisans works and food to indulge in.
Are you spontaneous? What was the last spontaneous thing you did?
Have you been to Noosa before? What was your favourite thing to do?
The funny thing is that I am not a spontaneous person, I blame it on being a Capricorn, I like to be prepared and have a plan for everything. Spontaneity just isn't my nature so it was fun to do something different and getaway.
Have a great Monday lovelies x
PS: there are more photos that I shared over on Instagram, including a little clip of Noosa and the gentle waves rolling in.
Spot on! We hang out at the river a lot. I just love this place and I hope next spontaneous trip you make this way, and if you have time we can meet for a cuppa x
ReplyDeleteOh I thought of you, but thought you were still in NZ? There will be a next time that's for sure, I am so eager to see your space x
